WHAT TYPE OF IELTS SHOULD I TAKE?

You can take either the Academic or General Modules. Choose the Academic module if you are planning to undertake academic study in a higher education institution.

If you are planning to undertake non-academic training or apply for immigration to Australia, Canada or New Zealand, we recommend you take the General modules.
You will be tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking whichever module you decide to take. If you are unsure of which module to take, please ask our Customer Service Advisers.

HOW MUCH WILL IELTS COST?
Fees for the exam are ETB 3,100 for both the General and Academic modules ( from January 2014)

How do I pay?

We accept payments in Cash Payment Order (CPO) only for all payments commencing from January 2013. Please order the CPO from any Commercial Bank of Ethiopia branch and make sure to mark the correct spelling for ‘British Council’

HOW DO I REGISTER?
Once you completed the online registration process, please bring the following within five working days.
• Copy of e-mail confirming that you have registered online
• A Cash Payment order ( CPO) of ETB 3,100 test fee for tests from January 2014  from any Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Branch order to 'British Council'
• Two recent passport-sized photos
• A copy and original of your valid passport or national ID used for online registration

WHEN AND HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY RESULTS?
Your results will be ready thirteen days after the test date and you can collect them from our centre or you can view your result online from http://ielts-results.britishcouncil.org you will be given a band score for each of the four papers as well as an overall band score along with a brief description of your level. The result is valid for two years. Results will be returned to you as a Test Report Form. There is no pass or fail mark. Scores are given on a band scale of one to nine (with one being a non-user and nine being an expert user of the English language).

HOW CAN I PREPARE?
Even if you are confident of your English skills, it is essential that you become familiar with the IELTS test format. IELTS practice material together with a CD is available from our office for ETB 425. Up on registering and effecting payment, you will be provided with an access code that will allow you a 30 hours on-line training material on road to IELTS website.
