TO REGISTER, SIMPLY FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW:
1. READ THE INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES
Download and read the 'Information for Candidates' document which contains important information about the test modules, format, the question types and the test results. Please note that IELTS is recommended for candidates over the age of 16.

2. DECIDE WHICH VERSION OF THE TEST IS RIGHT FOR YOU
There are two versions of the IELTS test:
IELTS Academic: this is recommended for candidates who plan to undertake academic studies.
IELTS General Training: this is recommended for candidates to use at work, work-related training or for migration.
It is strongly recommended that you also check with the organisations you wish to apply for before you book your test.
3. CHECK THE IELTS TEST DATES
There are a limited number of places for all our IELTS test sessions. IELTS test with the British Council is very popular, so we recommend that you register one month prior to make sure you get a place.
You can use our online registration system to find up-to-date information about test dates and availability or else contact one of our centres to register in person.
Please note: Your Listening, Reading and Writing tests will be completed on the same day. Your Speaking test will be carried out during the week after your main test day. The exact schedule will be communicated to candidates at least 3 days prior to your written test date. At the Kandy centre you will be notified of your Speaking test date at the time of registration and the exact times for your orals on the written test day.
4. REGISTER AND PAY
The fees :
2015 Test days - 20,000 LKR
You can now register easily and make Online Payments using your Visa or Mastercard debit/credit cards. If you choose to pay online please make sure your card is enabled for online payments and there are sufficient funds to cover the transaction. You should contact your bank for confirmation of your verification code before you begin. Also ensure you have your card details with you before starting the registration, as you will not be able to go back and pay online for the same date once you complete the online registration process.
Step 1 Enter your personal data into the candidates’ on-line database in the registration system. Please bear in mind that the sessions will not be visible in the system after the registration deadline. Once your application has been submitted, you cannot go back to change your details.
Step 2 During the registration process, upload a coloured and clearly legible copy of your valid Passport (no other document can be accepted). The document copy must contain your personal details, a photograph, ID number, DOB, the expiry date and your signature. Please make sure that all the pages are scanned on one single page.
Alternatively, You can submit the above documents at the time of making your payment or send in by post or email.
Expatriates: You are required to submit a copy of your valid visa documentation when you present yourself on the test day.
Step 3 Making the Payment
Option 1 - Online Payment
- Complete the payment online - our system accepts the following cards: Visa and MasterCard credit/debit cards.
- You will receive an email confirming your enrolment after we check your documents.
- Please note that incomplete applications may be cancelled.
Option 2 - Offline Payment
Pay the IELTS exam fee within 5 working days of completing this online registration in any of these ways
- Pay by cash or credit card at the British Council offices in Colombo or Kandy
- Make a Bank Draft or Directly deposit your exam fee to the British Council account at HSBC

For payments made by Direct Bank Transfers and Bank Drafts, kindly send the evidence of the payment within 5 working days from the day of registering for the test to the British Council in Colombo or Kandy along with a copy of your valid passport inorder to complete your registration by the due date.Please note that your payment will be valid only for 3 months from the payment date. No Refunds will be given for incomplete Registrations.
Please note: In case we do not receive the payment within 5 working days, your application will be cancelled.
5. AFTER YOU REGISTER
Admission and Payment Receipt
You will receive your admission which includes further information of your test dates and the payment receipt by email, once the registration is acknowledged by our admin team.
Receiving your value added Services
- IELTS practice book with listening CD
Your free IELTS preparation book will be sent by courier within 7 days from your registration completion date to the address provided in the application.
- Online Preparation course
Once you complete your payment , you will receive an email containing access details ( User Name : Your email address, Password : Reference Number) to our free online preparation course - 'Road to IELTS'.

- Library Membership (Reference)
Please produce your payment receipt and pick up the free reference membership card from the Customer Service or Library Counters where you can use our range of IELTS practice materials until the day of your Speaking Test.
- Mock Speaking or Writing test
You can opt for this service by making an additional payment of 1,300 LKR at our Customer Service Counter.
All the above documents and value added services will be offered over the counter at the time of your payment.
6. POSTPONEMENT AND CANCELLATION OF YOUR TEST

7. SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS
We make every effort to ensure all candidates have equal opportunities. If you have a disability or condition which may require special arrangements, you should discuss it with our centre as soon as possible. Please note we need three months to put arrangements into place. Each case is considered individually and you will need to provide a valid medical certificate.
